A comprehensive report on the human rights aspect of energy.
This part of the project will elaborate on the state-of-the-art discussions on an emerging human right of access to
sustainable energy, especially within the context of the UN Global Sustainable Energy Initiative, recently announced by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which aims to ensure universal access to modern energy services, double the global rate of improvement of energy efficiency and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
Then, the research will pursue the challenge of renewable energy resources and their share in the global energy mix, with particular emphasis on their presence in the marine environment. It would also include a thorough discussion on the role of renewable energy in the context of the climate change negotiations, taking into consideration the impressive imprint of the European Union in this area.
Expected key results: A comprehensive review of any emerging human rights claims of access to energy as part of an overall claim to sustainable development.
